Shout to the Lord

Read: Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. Psalm 100:1-5 (NIV)

Reflect: One of the most meaningful worship songs I have ever experienced is “Shout to the Lord” by Hillsong.  The lyrics touch me in a way that I cannot explain, except that I feel an upward connection with God when I sing.  The words speak to my spirit:

Shout to the Lord all the Earth, let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of Your hand
Forever I’ll love You, forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have
In You

My connection through worship is personal, but seeing someone else experience God through worship is amazing.  A 13-year-old boy in our neighborhood was going through a tough time at home. No surprise, he wasn’t doing well in school. He was unsure and really just investigating Christianity.  My husband and I brought him to a worship night and his heart was opened.  He sang and cried.  Yes, a 13-year-old boy.  Something in those worship songs spoke to that broken heart of his.  He gained a spiritual experience that we will never forget.

Worship through singing can ignite and spark your spirit in a way that you may not have imagined.  It truly is a gift from God to lift our voices in song to him in our cars or in community.  We were designed for worship!

React: Don’t be shy! Give it a try!  Shout, sing, clap, hum!  Share this experience with others!

Pray: I praise you with my voice and my heart.  Fill me with the joy of feeling your presence through song.  Lead me to others who I can invite to praise you in the same way!
