Read: “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4 (NIV)
Reflect: A couple of years ago, I went through some dark times. I didn’t get the promotion I expected; I was betrayed by a friend; I wasn’t feeling appreciated at home or work; a family member starting resenting me because I would not pay their bills, and the house we were renting sold out from under us! I felt under attack from every side.
I was overwhelmed and overcome with negative thoughts. Sleep evaded me, trying to figure out what I had done wrong. Why were so many bad things happening to me when I was trying to do the right thing? My problems seemed so enormous, and it felt like they would never go away.
I knew this situation was bringing me down. I started asking God to help me and restore my family, home, relationships and job as only he can. Slowly, my mindset changed — my problems still seemed huge, but I learned that God is bigger than any of my problems. I discovered that I am God’s masterpiece and that he has a better plan for me.
I am continuing to learn that God is in control. He uses things I don’t understand or would never choose to help me grow. God had better things ahead for me, but first I needed to surrender to him. Once I gave him my problems, I found peace and happiness. As time passed my life became better than I ever imagined, despite my circumstances.
React: Are your problems overwhelming? Are you trying to control things you cannot? Do you think your life and happiness can only happen if things work out only the way YOU want? Pray and seek Godly counsel. God is bigger than any challenge you will ever face.
Pray: God, thank you for challenges that help us grow. You are bigger than my problems, and you know what is best for me.
