Read: “Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 (NLT)
Reflect: During the recession, a member of our growth group was going through a difficult season. She had lost her job and she was the single source of income in her household. She tried for months to find employment, only to find temporary jobs that would soon leave her unemployed. As months turned into a year, her unemployment dried up; her options were running out.
The Holy Spirit was tugging on the hearts of our group. The holidays were around the corner and our growth group decided to take action. Even though our friend didn’t ask for our help, we felt compelled to act. It was decided that we would give her cash. Everyone participated as they felt led by the Holy Spirit. One group member received extra income that month, which was willingly added to this gift. A substantial amount of money was collected.
When presented with this unexpected financial support, our friend graciously accepted. It was just what her heart and wallet needed at this very dark time in her life. She felt grateful and understood God had inspired the gift.
Being a part of a growth group, I have witnessed and experienced the love and support of the members. I have seen the members listen to God’s word to reach out to others. Help is accepted and appreciated; givers and receivers are equally blessed.
React: Instead of waiting to help, just take action. Listen, love, and act!
Pray: Guide me to see, hear, and act in the interest of those in need. Help me be obedient to your Word.
