Read: “The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it.” Psalm 89:11 (NIV)
“…for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.” Phillipians 2:13 (NIV)
Reflect: There have been countless times when I have said I am going to give my finances to God. There have also been countless times where I have said I am going to view my possessions as the Bible says to view them – as God’s possessions. Ultimately, I resort back to “handling” things myself, with the result always being the same: no margin, stress, and frustration.
I don’t just compartmentalize my finances, I do it with other areas of my life as well. This illusion of believing I am capable of controlling things and keeping things on track is a result of thinking more highly of myself than I should. It is this lack of humility that finds me resorting to the same conduct and thus the same mistakes over and over. I have a choice in this. I hear God telling me that until I submit on the money issue, I will continue to have financial problems and I will continue to try to control all other areas of my life.
Today, I am saying the dangerous prayer I’ve been afraid to say this whole series: God, change my heart and mind regarding my finances and every area I try to control. Give me the desire and the power to let go and let you.
React: Have you said your dangerous prayer in this series yet? Don’t hold back, jump in.
Pray: God, help us remember that everything in this world belongs to you, including our next breath. Thank you for promising to give us the power to do what you would have us to do. Thank you for your amazing love for us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
