Read: “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42-47 (NIV)
Reflect: As we approach Commitment Weekend, I have a dream that Cannonball is the catalyst to move our church forward into a deeper level of giving. Not just financial giving, but looking for new ways to serve our community, to reach out to our neighbors and to make a difference for God.
I imagine our own 2017 version of the church we read about in the New Testament book of Acts, where the body of believers unite in order to collectively meet the needs of everyone around them. And the result of this uncommon, “all in” type living is that thousands of people came to know Jesus. Christianity as a faith grew the most, not because of great marketing or snappy advertising, but because people saw what could happen when normal, everyday folks lived for something greater than themselves, lived selflessly on mission for Jesus, and considered the impact of their actions more important than their own comfort.
I have a dream that we can move toward that way of living when all of us jump in together. Imagine the impact we would see in our neighborhoods, schools, communities and cities! And the awesome part is that we each just have to do our part and no more. If we each take our next step for God the end result will make waves that will go on forever! Let’s jump in and make waves together!
