Read: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
Reflect: My daughter worked at a specialty sandwich shop when she was younger. She would tell me she could create a special sandwich just for me. I was always too busy to stop by and try one. One day, she had an orthodontic appointment so I told her I would skip lunch and pick her up. She offered to use their freshly baked bread and make a special sandwich just for me. I was excited to try the special sandwich! On our drive to her appointment, we noticed a homeless man standing at the corner holding up a sign that read “Hungry.” When the light turned red and we stopped at the corner, my daughter turned to me and said “Mom do you mind if we give him your sandwich, please?” My stomach screamed “NO” but I responded with a half-hearted “Yes.” She handed me the beautifully wrapped sandwich. I opened my window and placed it in the man’s hands. He said, “God bless you.”
Later in the evening, I asked her why she wanted to give the homeless man the sandwich when we could have purchased a meal for him somewhere close by. She answered, “Because he was hungry and we had food to offer him.”
I am reminded that God has given me more than I will ever need. I am blessed with a great support system of family and friends. I have enjoyed a wonderful career. I am called to be a good steward of the resources I am given. Therefore, I am able to give generously, above and beyond, so that his grace can be shared with others.
Reflect: What are your first fruits that you can surrender and trust into God’s hands?
Pray: Lord, help me to put my time, talent, and treasure into your hands, so that I can be generous and share your grace with others.
