Read: “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13 (NIV)
Reflect: For several weeks our church family has been discussing church
history, growth, accomplishments, and commitment. As a unified body working to grow God’s kingdom, we have reached a major milestone and are considering the future. Historically, at this point of existence, the typical church sinks into a mode of depletion and diminution. We do not want this for our church.
Together with our leadership we have chosen to commit above and beyond the typical comfort of attendance and offering. Our membership has generously pledged to a two-year commitment of giving and service. For us, 2017 marks a new beginning and brings a new challenge. The question is, are we all in for the challenge? Have we done all that is possible? Can we do more? Are we sticking our necks out or are we holding back?
It has been said that where God guides, he provides. As a small business owner, I have seen this from real life experience, and I know it to be true. 2017 marked my 75thbirthday, an age where the excuse that I have done enough would likely be acceptable. But when I consider God’s unfailing love, the sacrifice Jesus made for me, and what accepting him as my Lord and Savior means, doing more is not simply an option for me, it is my duty, my privilege. Monetarily I cannot give as much as I wish I could, but I can, and will, serve. I will give of my labor; a little extra that means a lot.
React: We took a leap of faith when accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and we took another to grow our mission. Let us not stand aside, but offer ourselves generously in giving and service.
Pray: There is much to give and much to do. Father God, give us the moral clarity and principled action to work your will.
